RE: Visual Basic...

If you know what you're doing, not hard... It just takes time to learn it.

RE: Visual Basic...

Yeah, there's all kinds of places. That's where I read everything. Never even had a VB book. Grin

VB-World

And... well, pretty much everything else I have bookmarked is for DirectX and game programming, so it's a little too advanced for beginners. Grin

Just go do a search on Google for "Beginning Visual Basic" and see what ya get. Smile

Oh, by the way, it also helps to have Visual Basic. Grin If you wanted to learn C or C++, then you could just get free compilers on the internet, but Visual Basic is only Microsoft's, so ya gotta buy it... Oh Well I've tried to learn C++... waaaay too low-level stuff. Of course, Microsoft Foundation Classes are supposed to help with the window creation stuff.... but I never looked into it. Happy Dead I just make DLLs with it for VB if I need to.

RE: Visual Basic...

I am laughing at me

Okay now. Seriously, I have apparently progressed a long way. I eventually got into C++ and that's all I used for a long time. Since then, I have not been able to stand Visual BASIC syntax. It just takes so long to type! Happy Dead Plus it's so hard to do a lot of low-level things I liked in C++.

I eventually got into .NET programming, starting with Visual BASIC.NET but eventually graduated to the C# (C Sharp) language. That's what I use now. It's sort of a mix of Java and C++. It can be used to program ASP.NET or Windows Applications and a plethora of other things using the .NET Framework.

Microsoft has a bunch of programs available for free to program stuff for .NET. Things like Visual C# Express and Visual Web Developer Express. Heck, they even have a free version of SQL Server called SQL Server--you probably guessed it--Express.

Some day, hopefully, I'll be able to replace this board with a shiny new ASP.NET application backed by a SQL Server database.

That would be awesome.

For those who are interested, this board is currently some of the nastiest HTML and VBScript ever written running (barely) with ASP (duh?) and using a Microsoft Access database.

Fin.

RE: Visual Basic...

That would be rocksome if it was writen with ASP.Net backed with SQL...

Would you be able to use your .Net passports or is that just a Microsoft thing? Just curious. Happy Dead

Anyway... Yeah... that would be so rocksome.
When ya getting to work on it?!?! 8D!!

This is one of the worst? Laughing

I would have to pay Microsoft $10,000 per year and an occasional $1,500 fee to have them test the board to make sure it's up to snuff. Laughing

In short, we will not be using the .NET Passport service. We will be using basic, site-specific user authentication just like (almost) everyone else. Happy Dead

RE: Visual Basic...

Okay, that's what I thought. I just wasn't too sure... Happy Dead

But don't you have that kind of cash just laying around? Don't you want to be told that your site is not up to snuff?

Maybe that's why for the most part, it's only microsoft websites that have that. Laughing
