RE: The Weakest Link She said "I do not know". Most people know who "Dire Staits" is, but they didn't know Mark Knopfler was the leader of the band. I also think they know Dire Straits for 1 song...Money for Nothing. I could be wrong...but, that is what I am guessing. RE: The Weakest Link Yeah, most anybody would know Money For Nothing. Sometimes Sultans of Swing. But that's about it. Though, on one of the channels we get on the satellite that only plays music (not music videos) they played Lady Writer. I also heard Single-Handed Sailor once, too. Those are songs most people would've never known. My dad got some kind of card (looks sorta like a trading card. It has a picture of Mark Knopfler on it.) that says Dire Straits was either one of the most popular bands or the most popular band during their time (don't remember which. I think it was the most popular). I dunno if that's true, but I'd like to think so. I'm pretty sure he's fairly well-known in every country except the U.S.! There are a lot of MK/DS fans here in the U.S. apparently, though. Every single concert from the Sailing to Philadelphia tour he did here was sold out! Apparently he's popular here, you just don't hear about him much. The media prefers the people like Eminem (was it him?) that get arrested and stuff.
