SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs

Since nobody posted about it... I might as well.

I got it in September for my birthday. Amazingly, it doesn't aggrivate me as much as most shooters do. The only truly aggrivating thing is Boomer... on occasion. Like when I'm trying to sneak around to gather intel before I go blasting everything, Boomer will pull out the loudest gun in the game and fire twenty shots at one guy. Happy Dead Other than that, it's a cool game. I've beaten it one time around. I'm Lieutenant Junior Grade now and I'm trying to beat it again and get A's on every mission. Lots of sneaking stuff. Fairly realistic, too. Head shots will kill, and if you use an assault rifle or a machine gun, it will generally penetrate even body armor. You can whack people with the butt of your gun, too! Super Grin You can pick up all dropped weapons (except the weapons of your incapacitated team mates... because they don't let go! Happy Dead) You can also pick up bodies and hide them, but I don't see a reason to since most of them disappear after a few seconds anyway. Blah There are a few bodies, however, that don't disappear. They're usually the first guys you come across in a mission. The guns are actually useful, unlike a lot of games. *coughcough*Urban Terror, Tactical Ops*coughcough* The silenced weapons actually don't bounce off the people (like Tactical Ops) and it's possible to kill somebody wearing body armor with two or three shots. If you can get a head shot, any gun is one-hit kill. In Tactical Ops it takes at least one whole 30-round magazine to kill somebody with the MP5s. (I've used as many as two 30-round magazines on one guy... Not Amused)

Anyway, back to Navy SEALs.

It has an assortment of grenades and grenade launchers. It has fragmentation grenades, high-explosive grenades, smoke grenades, and flashbangs (the ones I use most often). Flashbangs actually work on computer-controlled players. Unlike, again, Urban Terror and Tactical Ops. Also, if you don't look at the flashbangs when they go off, they won't blind you. Unlike Urban Terror... Not Amused And when grenades blow, and you're near them, they'll either knock you down or kill you, (depending on how close you are) and you'll go deaf, and there's this awesome ringing sound. Wink

There are three different M4A1s... a plain ol' M4A1, one with an M203, and one with a sound suppressor that's as long as the whole dang gun! Happy Dead There are two M16A2s... a plain ol' M16A2 and one with an M203. Also, when you're using a suppressed weapon you can't pick up normal ammo on the ground. You can only pick up sub-sonic ammo. Only problem is, the enemy never uses suppressed weapons! Happy Dead But if you have a normal unsuppressed weapon, like an M4A1, and you find a terrorist's 552, you can use the ammo, since they both use .223 Remington. More marks on the realism score. Smile

It can be third-person or first-person. I use both a lot. Usually third-person for room-clearing since it's easier to aim.

A lot of times, if you stun some terrorists with a flashbang, they'll surrender and you can restrain them. I always try to do that, but I've died a lot that way. Happy Dead Like I run into the room, they're yelling, one gives up, and I don't realize the other didn't, so he shoves the muzzle of his AKS-74 into my face and blows me away. Happy Dead

Uhh... Okay, I rambled enough... for now. Wink

I just saw a commercial for this game and it was awesome. Happy Dead

Two ordinary dudes are playing it online, they're being terrorists. They're going along and suddenly get attacked. They start yelling into their headsets (I didn't mention that you can talk to your team mates--computer or player-controlled--with the headset it comes with) trying to get their team mates to help them. They all get slaughtered. One guy says, "Who are these guys?!" It cuts to a tent, and a bunch of men--Navy SEALs--watching one SEAL play SOCOM as well. The SEAL playing says, "Like shooting fish in a bucket." He's the one who just whooped those guys. Happy Dead

The only commercial I've seen in a really long time that didn't totally irritate me! I actually found it amusing. Grin
