RE: Hey whose still active?

The HP, MP, Leveling system is one of the greatest down fall of a good role playing board. How to make battles interesting?

Make it realisic, like real life, there's no hp or mp if you fight. Instead just you get tired fighting, next instead of hp use "wounded" more. I'll write an short example of a battle roleplay scene...

Laura
It nightfall and the moon and shining up high in the dark skies. Laura the infamous bounty hunter steps on to the edge of the mountains in careful steps of ambush and takes a piece of parchment out of her backpack and she took a closer look at it. She saw a man's face and a bounty of two thousand gold on his head. Laura came here for a reason. Because she expected that the hunted Zilion will pass through these green plains. She looks around the grassy plains. And she hastily moves up towards the small hills above. She thought that that'll be a prefect ambush spot...
"I came here for a reason... For your bounty Zilion" she whispered softy to herself.

Zilion
As Zilion was moving across the dark grassland on his two feet. The moon being the only source of light at the dark cold night. Equiped with light chain body armor and gripping on a saber on his right hand. He expected that he'll be hunted down due to the price at his head. Expected that some bounty hunter would show up and attack him. He had come prepare for any of those kinds of twists of fate. He looks around carefully and every step he as walked. He carefully looking at the ground for traps like foot snares/bear traps. He countined moving, *didn't realize that he is being stalked by the bounty hunter Laura*

Laura
As she waits and waits patiently. This part is the part where she hates the most... waiting in this small bush. Although her waiting stopped when she spoted the man at the parchment she seen eariler. She grew nervous as she spots her target. She readies herself afterwards. She carefully stays close to the high grounds not to draw his attention. Making no sounds at her every moment. Slowly draws her bow and her arrow. She pulls and targets him. She took a deep breath, as her body shakes slighty as she's going to attempt to kill yet another victim for bounty. She smiled slightly and evily. She focus and... *Releases Arrow* in attempt to pierce Zilion's right shoulder.

Zilion
He didn't realize an arrow was released. Zilion falied to notice the hostile arrow slings towards him. It pierced his arm. He screamed in pain as he droped ihs saber to the ground below. Zilion right arm was wounded and he tried to take out the arrow. Blood driped down and he knows he's in trouble if he just stay there. Finally aware of his attacker's position. Zilion endured the pain and *hastily grabed the saber on the ground with his left* *runs up the small hill* with rage in his eyes towards his attacker the infamous bounty hunter Laura...
"Die you bounty hunter!" he shouted.

MAN thats 4 posts of roleplaying replies...

Thats simple isn't it? And it really makes you FEEL like your actually in that situation. It's a awesome feeling that make few roleplaying sites stand out from the average unactive sites.

The MAIN rules about this kind of battle role play is...

1. Do not godmoding (like you dodge every attack laid on you with supiror luck)

2. Do not control over other player's response or action.

3. You can only do two actions before your turn is up ( I use ** as the MAIN BATTLE ACTIONS/IMPORTENT EVENTS and I recommand 2 actions so its like you can block and attack. If one action its like... You got shot by arrow, and you block with your shield and thats it. The enemy could just shoot you again and so on )

4. Give at least 24 hours for your enemy to respond. If they fail to respond, you can skipped their turn and every attack you used at them is sucessful.
( Also I recommand 24 hours. Because people are of different timezones and this makes members always log into the site and make the site ACTIVE! )

5. Keep it realistic and atleast a paragrafh to reply ( This gives the feeling to the members like there actually in that situation and can express what will they do. Its really fun. )

6. Keep it fun okay? ^^

I think there more to the rules. I suggested that, what do you think about my idea?

And the WEIRD thing about guns, that one shot or two shot and a human will die. And you cannot use guns in a role play battle system like the one I just suggested. What do you think?

You know if I do find a message board forums with that kind of roleplay. I can stay there forever... hehehe///

RE: Hey whose still active?

Who decides who wins a player vs. player battle? That's my problem with it. I guess the two players can talk about it and decide beforehand. Otherwise, it's either going to just go on forever or the loser is going to complain. Besides that, your ideas sound perfect, and maybe there could somehow be restrictions on guns in PvP battles. Maybe a character against a character with a gun gets four actions or something, giving them time to move closer, take cover, and eventually possibly disarm their opponent.

Your example battle just gave me an idea. If we had a lot of members, the administrators could post bounties for certain characters depending on what they do. Grin

RE: Hey whose still active?

Well it doesn't really need to follow a storyline. Theres no need to talk out who will win. Because if it does then you wouldn't really feel the "situation". In battle, it just like the odds in real life. The realistic is one of the main key here.

I wouldn't get upset if I lose, as long as its FUN and FAIR thats most I care about. *smiles*

And its a "realistic" roleplay. No human in real life can go fighting forever. Thats why the members themselves have to be advanced like such.

Hehehe, the guns, guns, guns that my only problem at the moment for me. Just imagine me with a chain armor and a bow and you with a sniper rifle. The odds are too clear already. One shot and I lose. Plus you cannot dodge a scoped bullet can you? Thats kinda like godmoding if there's guns.

And your idea of the extra turn thing may work. BUT is just not realistic thou. Really at the moment the guns is the biggest problem at the moment.

And I LOVE your idea of bounties! I also kinda hopeing that the Level will be changed to fame hehhehe. That would be more interesting. Even I hope like there will be like kingdoms. We can join the imperial armies and we should get someone to be the commander and such.

Even if theres alot of member ther could be a large scale war between two kingdom. Alots and alots of members will be in that war event. And its all up to the member's smart role playing skills to turn the tide of the war.

Like one kingdom got 67 members and the other got 62 member. And its like elimination, tons of battle roleplay pairing up who to fight who. And in the end like the kingdom who lost all their soldiers lose the war.

It'll be cool too if the sites grows large. Active sites are tons of members. Each kingdom have a king or something like that. The king can crown a soldier to be his royal guards or the commander of a small group of soldiers.

It's all realistic and awesome to me.
What do you think? Man it'll be so cool if you could remake the site thou.

RE: Hey whose still active?

All those thing you should think about it.

I still got alots of ideas o suggest in my mind. Although its not important at the moment cause the site hasn't REBORN yet.

I'll be happy to help. Althrough if you do think about making it all over, you could start from sracth (or how you spell it) so its faster?

RE: Hey whose still active?

There's always a chance that a person with a gun will miss, and the other guy can take cover if possible. Otherwise, the sword-user may have to invest in at least a bow. Grin

RE: Hey whose still active?

I'll definitely try to come up with some way to balance out guns in PvP, but again, I'm definitely not getting rid of them.

Your kingdom idea is a little too involved for Meeriad. I aim for casual role playing where as soon as you start you can be doing cool stuff and you don't have to worry about being obligated to be a part of something if your life gets really busy and such. And besides, playing a king couldn't be much fun. Smile

RE: Hey whose still active?

Well maybe your just right hehhee...
But there's got to be a law somewhere? Like th police but name them imperials and such.

And hey what about like making gun a bit older? The older type of guns hurt less than now. And a chance a bullet miss, well how many misses can that be?

Gets kinda boring if battles are ended in 2 or 3 turns. Don't you think so?

RE: Hey whose still active?

I wouldn't say older guns hurt less. They shot much larger projectiles at slower speeds, so they would enter the body but not exit, so you'd be stuck with a big burning lead ball in your body. I think you'd be out of commission. But they would definitely be less accurate.

Indeed, battles would probably be boring if they end in 2 or 3 turns. But everybody does old-style weapons in their online role playing worlds. It's boring by now.

RE: Hey whose still active?

Not for me through. I still cannot find a site now with a old styled weapons thats still active. Lots of harry potter role playing games.

Well so what is your first step to reborning the site?
